The thickness sander, while not used, transforms to a gluing table, in the center of my workshop. Top view, with the dust collector vaccum connection on top of it.There is a faux table that slides and serves to push the piece. Rear view. The frame is made of 70mmx70mm salvage pine poles Washing machine engine, hung. The pouley is at the end of the cylinder. Engine is mounted with hinges. Insures the tension of the belt. The tilting table is mounted using a piano long hinge. The piano hinge is screwed to an adjustable plate, to be able to set the parallelism with the sanding roll. The sanding roll is a stack of 20mm plywood disks, over a 20 mm diameter tubular shaft. The sanding paper is simply taped at both ends. The shaft is equiped with a couple of ball bearings, enclosed into a piece of hard wood (ash). An extension shaft can be inserted for mounting a buffing wheel for instance. What makes this thickness sander original : its table lift system. Three wooden gears making two threaded rods turning synchronously to lift up and down the table, with no warpage possibility. The central gear is used either with a handle to turn quickly, either by hand adjustment, for fine tuning. Very precise. All contents under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license.
